Tayport Tennis (Mar, 2010)
21/May/2010
Tennis: In the third round of Tennis Tayside matches, the gents' first team suffered its first defeat, going down 5-4 to visiting Craigmuir, in Division Two.
Jimmy Ness and Derek Petrie were the star performers for the hosts, collecting two and a half points. The other two couples could not contribute enough to earn Tayport a win.
Ian Ness and Derek Richie won three of their six sets, while Richard Tough and James McRitchie could not convert any of their opportunities.
The second string also lost, up at Arbroath. Peter Dick and Stuart Munn won five of their six sets, but the rest of the team could not match their high standards. Colin Martin and David Tough picked up half, by winning one set, while the father-son combination of Gordon and Scott McKinstry could not add to the overall tally.
There was better news for the ladies' team. They again won convincingly, beating Wormit 6-3.
There were maximum points for Claire Ness and Marian Wain and also for Erin Gourlay and Sandra Gillespie.
Mandy Strachan and Emma Gillespie were not able to get in on the act, but competed well, as Tayport won for the third successive week.
