Tennis update (Jun, 2010)
25/Jun/2010
Tennis: with Wimbledon now in full swing, Tayport Tennis Club is holding an open day this Saturday, June 26. This event is open to all, adults and children, beginners and professionals. There will be a strawberry theme, as well as plenty of tea, coffee and juice.
A ball machine will be available for people to hone their skills, with various competitions organised during the course of the afternoon.
Everyone will be made most welcome and, of course, anyone interested in joining the club will be given details about membership. The event runs from 1pm to 4pm.
In terms of league tennis, the ladies are now closing in on promotion to Division Six.
A few weeks ago, Tayport could only send two couples to Maulesbank, but somehow escaped with a draw and, with a full complement of players, followed that result with a narrow win at Wormit.
The gents' first team look set to remain in Division Two. A comprehensive win against visiting Games Club ensured that Tayport would stay in the six-team league, but a relatively heavy defeat at Craigmuir scuppered hopes of promotion to the top flight.
In Division Four, the second string has been finding life difficult. They suffered at the hands of Games Club II, but did collect the points last week, when Arbroath were unable to field a team.
The summer holidays will see attention turn to the Henderson Vase mixed doubles league, while the Tayport club championships will also get underway.
It's not too late for new members to join in the fun, so the club hopes for a good turnout for Saturday's open day.
