23/Aug/2009    Tayport Community Trust update. Quite a few things have happened since the Festival Update Newsletter in July, one in particular is excellent news! Harbour Café. You may have seen the recent reports in the newspaper that we have secured planning permission with regard to the Harbour Café. This includes a change of category from Class 1 Retail to Class 3 Food and Drink, which restricts the premises to operate as a community tea room/coffee shop with limited cooking but with the ability to also serve as a community meeting facility. Opening hours are 8.00am to 5.00pm Monday to Saturday and 10.00am to 4.00pm on Sunday from October to March. There are extended opening hours from 8:00am to 8:00pm Monday to Saturday and 10:00 am to 7:00pm on a Sunday during months April to September.

The next stages are to complete the design, apply for a building warrant, and apply for funding to refurbish the interior of the café.

The Trust’s thanks go to Mary-Jane Duncan who has worked tirelessly to gather all the information and liaise with professionals, tradesmen, organisations and volunteers. Without Mary-Jane’s input we would not be at this stage in the project and it is solely due to all her efforts that we are. Mary-Jane will be contacting everyone who volunteered to help with the café. If you would like to be included on the list of volunteers please contact Mary-Jane on 01382 553882 or email harbourcafe at hotmail.co.uk

Meeting with Fife Council

Following our meeting with Fife Council in March, work has progressed to put our ideas about the redevelopment of the Abertay Works on Shanwell road into reality. A feasibility study has been commissioned through Community Enterprise. A draft version of this has been shared with Strategic Asset Management (formerly the Estates Department), with whom we had a meeting in July. This appeared to go well and our request for exclusive rights to the whole site will be considered by the Policy, Finance & Asset Management Committee in September.

Energy Group

The Energy Group, in conjunction with Transition Town Tayport, are trying to gauge local interest on energy saving and renewables. A presentation by the Energy Saving Trust will be held in September which will assist the Trust to promote energy saving and various options for renewable energy in the community. Everyone is welcome to attend this presentation and further details will be circulated when a date has been confirmed.

Communication Tree

In conjunction with the Community council and like minded voluntary, sports and activity clubs, the Trust has signed up to a communication tree. Currently 8 organisations, with a total membership of approximately 600, have signed up and using e-technology, each secretary or point of contact of the organisation will email its membership to promote events in Tayport. If you are part of an organisations or sports club and would like to be included on the communication tree, please contact Bruce Davidson on bwd_hmd at btinternet.com for further information.

Annual General Meeting

The next Annual General Meeting of the Trust will be held in October or November.

Car Boot sale

The Trust will have a presence at the car boot sale on Sunday 23 August to raise awareness of the Trust and what we’re trying to do. If you wish to support the Trust please come along. The Tayport Community Trust jute bags will also be on sale to raise money.

Fundraising

The Trust is to hold a fundraising event in the autumn and further details will be circulated.

If you would like to help then please contact us.
